STK South Beach Is Definitely Not Your Daddy's Steakhouse

They aren't kidding when they say STK is not your daddy's steakhouse. With locations all over the world from Ibiza to Milan, San Diego to South Beach, and a bunch in between, STK is a chic, world class spot for a nice juicy piece of steak and exhilarating cocktails, like the Strawberry Cobbler, made with Belvedere, fresh muddled strawberry and a graham cracker crust and the Missing Percy, mixed with botanist gin, fresh lime, watermelon, and basil, among other things, that defines the modern dining experience.

We were in a carnivorous kind of mood and decided to check out STK South Beach. All dolled up and needing a bit of mingling, we walked into the 1 Hotel and Homes (formerly the Gansevoort) at 2305 Collins Avenue and first thought wow... this is definitely a different concept for a steakhouse.

First thing we noticed was the sleek and shiny dark interior, with the soft lighting that made everyone look so good. The elegant rosewood tables complemented the elephant tusk ceiling fixtures, while the white leather banquettes stood out.

We strutted to our table to the tune of the DJ, who gave the place an ultra modern feel as we inhaled the tantalizing scent of aged steak and good wine.

First stop: the bread. Yes I'm starting with the bread. Dee-li-cious. The soft, warm, pull-apart decadence topped with bleu cheese butter is a sin. But one of those you must continue to commit. On the side is a chive oil for dipping that reminds me of a subtle chimichurri, only better. If you don't have self control do not, I repeat.... do not begin pulling apart the bread. You won't stop. It's that good.

As if all that bread wasn't enough of a carb fest, we started with STK's famous Lil' Brgs. These Wagyu beef delights that fit in your hands but melt in your mouth are topped with a special sauce, melted cheese and are nestled in between two sesame seed buns. Forget where you've heard similar lyrics before, this here is the real deal. You could probably have eight of these and call it a night but that would be wrong, wouldn't it?

Our second starter was my favorite bite of the night: their Sea Scallops. Two perfectly plump scallops sat on top of a short rib marmalade, then were surrounded by sweet corn and Hawaiian heart of palm. Alongside this tasty treat, was a symmetrical drizzle of English pea puree crowned by some crunch that brought all the flavors together. It was a palate party and we were the guests of honor.

Excited about what was to come next, we tried the Roasted Half Organic Chicken. We wanted to make sure we hit all the basic food groups that really matter: seafood, meat and chicken. The juicy poultry was served over roasted heirloom carrots, haricot vert, and fennel, then drizzled with a flavorful chamomile broth.

Because we were at STK and you cannot walk away without sampling their steak we did just that. It doesn't what you order, whether you are in the mood for a Ribeye, or a Porterhouse, or a NY Strip or even a Tomahawk, you will not be disappointed. Their steaks are high quality and perfectly cooked to your liking.

For side dishes, we went a healthy route and a traditional one, which translates to Asparagus and Mac & Cheese.  Both were served in very large portions and were delicious. I even had some Mac & Cheese left for the following day and I promise it didn't see the inside of my refrigerator for long.

You're probably wondering if we had room for dessert, but if you are, you don't know me very well. Of course I had room for dessert. And if I didn't, I would've made some. This is why we didn't just order one dessert but two. We indulged in their signature Bag O' Donuts, filled with dulce de leche. The sweet morsels were served with two sauces: spiced chocolate and raspberry. Quiz time: Which one do you think I licked right off the little bowl?

Our second sweet finale was the Warm Baked Cookie.  Picture this: A soft, warm chocolate chip cookie melting in your mouth as you close your eyes and savor the creamy caramel cascading down its side. Vanilla ice-cream slowly drips onto the cookie as you scoop a spoonful mixed with thick, chocolate sauce and guide it to your mouth. Yes my friends...it's like a scene out of a steamy romance novel. That's just how good it felt to bite into it.
