You remember the Wynwood Yard? The magical space in the heart of Wynwood that brought entertainment, art, great food, awesome cocktails and a general cool vibe to the community? Well back in early 2020 they moved a little west - to Doral to be exact. During a difficult time in 2020, The Doral Yard brought liveliness and fun to the Downtown Doral area with a Main Street Stage and most recently, they have finalized their Backyard Space, intertwining their indoor and outdoor spaces with culinary delights, live entertainment, and round-the-clock events.
The indoor space known simply as The Hub, includes a mini-food hall and a full-bar, featuring a variety of different cuisines and libations that provide something for everyone. The outside zone, or The Backyard, is an aesthetically pleasing place that showcases a larger stage for outdoor entertainment and events, and a culinary space to enjoy some more tasty treats. There is also another bar and an anchor restaurant, Barbakoa by Finka, brought to us by the well-known and loved chef Eileen Andrade, of Finka and Amelia's 1931.
We recently spent an evening at the Doral Yard and had a gastronomical time sampling the mouth-watering menus in the Food Hall, all while listening to some cool music. The only problem you may face when visiting the Doral Yard is deciding what you want to eat. Whether you're in the mood for some serious meat, or on the other side of the spectrum, want to keep it vegan, two spots can tickle your pickle.
The first one is Un Pollo. Don't let the name fool you though. Yes, you can get a mean, authentic Venezuelan "Pollo en Brasa", or rotisserie chicken here but there is so much more. Take for example their Parrillada. It is a meat lovers paradise that comes with Pollo en Brasa, Picanha steak, chorizo (sausage), morcilla (blood sausage), cochi-frito, steamed yuca, garlic aioli potatoes and coleslaw. Seriously, it blew me away. The steak was literally a flavor explosion in my mouth and those sausages..... unbelievable. I highly recommend sinking your teeth into their Steak and Truffles too. Just remembering it is making my mouth water.... Definitely coming back for more.
If you're looking for a plant-based option, look no more. Della bowls has the hook-up for you. These globally-inspired bowls are not only delicious, but healthy too. And you can customize your own and get jiggy with it. We had the Doral Bowl which was a tasty combination of brown rice, black beans with sofrito, lentil meatballs ( those were awesome), heart of palm salad, and ripe plantains all drizzled with a verde sauce. We also made our own bowl choosing from their long list of ingredients and that came out fantastic.
Maybe you're craving some handcrafted dumplings or some dim sum and then some? Then you will love Yip. They have a variety of of dumplings and other goodies that you can share (or not) and enjoy. We sampled their steamy Shrimp Dumplings and their Krabby Rangoon. So good. We were fighting over the last one.
You cannot eat all that delicious food without washing it down with some luscious libations so that's exactly what we did. Whether you want to sip on your drink on the grassy area outside, or indoors in the food hall, you will be happy with your choice from The Bar. Have a try of the Spicy Daisy (ouch) and the Otra Noche En Miami. You'll thank me later.
Once you have your salty fix, there are some nice happy endings to consider. For a handcrafted, refreshing gourmet pop made with natural, high quality ingredients, check out Paletas Morelia. These gourmet paletas are the talk of the town. If the Miami cold nights (anything below 70 is brutal) are calling for something warmer, then treat yourself to some made-to-order churros coated with inventive flavors and stacked over locally-made scoops of ice-cream at Santo Dulce. Whatever flavor you choose, you will be in heaven.
The best part is that The Doral Yard is not just about food and drink but about an all-around good-vibes experience. Local Miami talent featuring sounds from all over the world perform in the Backyard stage, as well as pop-up dance performers. From jazz to Latin funk, what else can you ask for?
